Klein Oak Chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (& Lettering)

(Modeled after the International Thespian Society Mission)

The primary mission of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) and Lettering Program is to promote and honor outstanding dance achievement in KOHS students as well as encourage well-rounded dance artists to become leaders in their communities after high school graduation.

Student membership in the NHSDA and qualification for lettering shall be awarded on the basis of points earned for meritorious work in dance that meet the general guidelines and, when appropriate, on the basis of dance class grade point average. In addition, the prospective member’s demonstration of collaborative teamwork, motivation, and participation in the many aspects of dance (choreography, performance, teaching, production, etc.) is a factor in the determination of eligibility for membership.

Upon induction, all members will receive a certificate of membership. In addition, members may participate in special events or receive mailings generated by the NDEO. Inducted students are encouraged to include their membership in scholarship packets and/or resumes for college or dance employment. All students who qualify will receive a letter (purchased by the dance program) and a bar for each year thereafter.

The KLEIN OAK DANCE COMPANY (KODC) is the non-competitive, co-ed dance performing group at Klein Oak, with focus on Classical, Contemporary, and Theatrical techniques.

Admission to this level of dance is by AUDITION ONLY.

After school rehearsals are limited to allow for additional intensive training in the studio setting.

KODC is open to only those students who LOVE to dance and wish to continue a more intensive study into various forms of dance as well as the art of choreography. KODC performs on campus and at various venues throughout the school year (Jones Hall, Annual Dance Concerts, etc).

KODC and the KO Dance Program hope to provide students with a liberal arts orientation to dance with the intention to develop students who may become choreographers, dance scholars, and / or dance performers. In addition, the program welcomes those students who seek life enrichment through dance.

We are always looking to add dancers (MEN and women) with heart, talent (Hip Hop/BBoyin’/Poppin’/etc.) and the spirit to represent Klein Oak High School in a positive manner.

OBK meets during daily (Hip Hop Crew 1,2,3,4) and one day a week after school until 4:15pm. OBK fulfills either PE or FINE ARTS requirements.
